Our Mission
Mission Statement: "To empower and uplift families in the DMV region by organizing impactful events that foster community support and provide essential resources to those in need. We aim to spread joy, alleviate hardship, and inspire collective generosity within our community through our initiatives."
Purpose: "Our organization is dedicated to making a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals facing financial challenges, especially during difficult times. Through events like our Back-to-School Drive and Toy Drive, we bring together community members to support one another by providing necessary supplies and joyful experiences for children and families. By prioritizing compassion and community, we seek to enrich lives and build a stronger, more resilient region for all."
The heart behind the toy drive: a journey of giving
During my time at the National Institutes of Health, we had a tradition of preparing holiday care boxes filled with toys, food, and essentials for families in need. It was a joyful experience for most, but one year, I noticed a colleague didn’t participate. I assumed it might be for religious reasons, so I respectfully asked why.
Their story touched my heart. Due to illness in their family, they were caring for their younger siblings and couldn't afford holiday decorations or gifts. It was a humbling reminder that while we were giving, some were silently struggling.
This moment inspired me to start a toy drive in 2016, ensuring no child would wake up on Christmas morning without a gift. Supported by family and friends, we’ve made it our mission to bring joy to children who need it most.

On December 7, 2024, J & D A Touch of Love hosted its highly anticipated Annual Toy Drive, and the event exceeded all expectations. It was an evening filled with generosity, joy, and community spirit.

The excitement started a day earlier, with family, friends, and our excellent partners preparing things. The team from Poppin Balloons LLC arrived early to help transfer everything to the rental hall. We were thrilled to have DJ Sachmore on the decks, setting the tone for the evening, and Kourtney Katering, our caterer, who made sure everyone was well-fed and happy throughout the event.
A special shout-out goes to Sherri who took the décor to the next level. When I asked Sherri how she came up with the design ideas, she humbly replied, "It's by the grace of God." Their work truly transformed the venue into a festive winter wonderland.

The toy drive officially kicked off at 6:30 PM, with 130 guests registered and 115 attending—a fantastic turnout! Guests traveled from DC, VA, and MD to enjoy the fun and show their support.
Before the event, we had already collected five bikes and 15-20 toys, but as the evening progressed, we were amazed by everyone's generosity. The event became a true community celebration. Each table was decorated with poinsettias and Nothing Bundt Cakes as centerpieces, making for a festive and elegant atmosphere. The twist? Guests who won a cake could share it with the others at their table or take it home as a sweet souvenir!
In addition to the fun and festivities, we had five members from Volunteers of America (VOA) speak about the impact of their programscreating and how important initiatives like ours are for the community.

By the end of the evening, we collected 274 toys: seven bikes, three scooters, nine basketballs, and five footballs. We also received 12 $10 McDonald’s gift cards for local high schoolers, adding a thoughtful touch to our drive.
The toys were distributed to several local organizations, including St. Ann’s Church and Recreation Center in DC. VOA also took part, delivering toys to the Pratt House in Baltimore, and we’re still waiting to hear about the distribution locations in Prince George’s County.

- My sister, Lisa Adams, for her financial and emotional support and confidence in this effort from the beginning. Her tireless late-night proofreading and guidance during the countless hours leading up to this event were invaluable.

- Nikki of Kourtney Katering and her exceptional team for delivering an outstanding culinary experience and doing so with incredible professionalism and care.

- Reggie, thank you for your incredible work as our cameraman: your talent, professionalism, and a keen eye for capturing the perfect moments truly broughtvent to life.
- Eric Sewell, for his financial support and always being willing to help others.
- Sherrii Sewell transformed the hall with beauty and grace, sharing that God's grace guides her talent. The transformation was simply breathtaking.
- A special thanks also goes out to the University of Maryland (UMD) students for their contributions and collective efforts to raise funds and make a difference.
- A special thanks to VOAC for being a vessel that distributes toys to children and families in need.
